Bon Suter — Artist's Statement

“I am overawed at the creation”

My particular passion is land close to water. My joy comes from my visual observations and my participation in both. These broken fragments show archetypal nature—ancient and also in this moment.

Life is fleeting but these bronzes travel along for a while through time. As an international bronze artist, I believe sculpture should endure as both an artistic and investment legacy.

Ancient Symbols in Bronze

Ancient symbols created from:

  • Mother • Blossom • Father
  • Female Flower • Holy Spirit • Male
  • Yin • Spring/Gust • Yang
  • Balance • Peace

Inspiration from the New Zealand Landscape

My inspiration has come from the landscape of South Brighton, Christchurch, where I have lived for the past 30 years or so. The estuary, the sea, and the ever-changing light of Canterbury shape every bronze sculpture I create. It is my hope that the artwork can point to the error of our current path on a local level.

The strong wind that blows through the small towns of back country South Island—these forces of nature are captured in each hand-crafted bronze piece, making them true investment art that connects the collector to the New Zealand landscape.

Through my work, I seek to capture the essence of these powerful natural forces and the timeless symbols that connect us to our environment and each other. Each bronze sculpture is an investment in beauty, meaning, and permanence.
